Event Summary.
Work and time
“Hardly any other author in world literature of the last century has been written about as extensively as Thomas Mann. And yet…to this day there is no presentation that comprehensively interprets and illuminates his entire work.” This is how the literary scholar Dieter Borchmeyer explains his large and very extensive new Mann book. For the first time, it fulfills the desideratum of such an overall presentation. Dieter Borchmeyer will talk about this. And he not only interprets his “hero” from his time, but also reflects him into our time and its problematic tensions. We look forward to many suggestions about Thomas Mann and to Gerold Huber on the piano making the evening a very special event.
Dieter Borchmeyer, born in Essen, is professor emeritus of literary studies at the University of Heidelberg, where he gives lectures. For many years he was president of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts. In addition to literature, musical theater is a theme of life, especially that of Mozart and Wagner.
Amadeus Wiesensee, born in 1993, is a pianist and made his debut with the Munich Radio Orchestra at the age of twelve. Most recently 'Artist in Residence' at the Beethoven House in Bonn.
