Time & Location

Gräfelfing, Kurt-Huber-Gymnasium, Adalbert-Stifter-Platz 2
Event Summary.
No other mountain occupied the famous high-altitude mountaineer Hans Kammerlander so much. And no one has shaken up South Tyroleans as much as Manaslu and demanded as much from them emotionally as this eighth-highest Himalayan giant. And it is precisely this summit that he has not reached. With Reinhold Messner, Kammerlander climbed seven 8,000-meter peaks without bottled oxygen. In 1991 he organized a Manaslu expedition. It ended in an unimaginable tragedy. Kammerlander lost two of his best friends during the descent. One fell, the other was struck by lightning in front of Kammerlander's eyes. Afterwards, the Ahrntal mountain guide decided to give up his job, but some time later he changed his decision. He even returned to Manaslu 26 years after the tragedy. The drama surrounding this mountain is the subject of his lecture in Gräfelfing.
Hans Kammerlander, born in 1956 in Ahornach/South Tyrol, is a mountain guide, extreme mountaineer and skier. He climbed 12 of the 14 eight-thousanders and is still hiking in the Alps today. He talked about his mountain adventures in successful books (“Mountain Addict”, “On a Silk Thread”). He regularly gives lectures, which he accompanies with wonderful images and films.
