Event Summary.

A family story with many voices

The culture shock of a family that immigrated from Anatolia to a small town on the Lower Rhine is the subject of this award-winning novel. The plot leaves nothing out, no rape, no misunderstanding, no conflict at work, whether in the shoe factory, the farmer's field or in his own pub. And then there is the mother's expectation of her growing son, who should be at her side as a strong man, but who himself has completely different demands for a fulfilled life. Women of several generations and the son born in Almanya remember themselves in poetic, often mythical, powerful images and in monologues, dialogues, dreams, prayers, choirs. Dinçer Güçyeter tells sensitively about the fate of Turkish Greeks, about archaic roots in Anatolian life and about the challenge of starting a new life in Germany as a guest worker and as their descendant.

Dinçer Güçyeter is a theater maker, poet and publisher. Born in 1979 in Nettetal near the Dutch border as the son of an innkeeper and an employee. Apprenticeship as a toolmaker, temporarily working as a restaurateur and forklift driver. Having performed his own poems in front of an audience since his youth, he founded the ELIF publishing house in 2012 with a focus on poetry. Several book publications, for which he was awarded the Peter Huchel Prize in 2022. In the same year, his first novel 'Our Germany Fairy Tale' was published, which received the Leipzig Book Fair Prize in 2023.
